4th Of July Parade

The Annual 4th of July will be held on July 4th this year. Meet at Mayor Lindsey's house at around 10:20 AM. The parade will begin at 10:30. Decorate your bike, wagon, golf-cart, or whatever and join the fun!

Captain Underpants?

The neighborhood will be pleased to know that Captain Underpants has been sighted in Glen City. This caped-crusader was seen in his yard and in the neighborhood. Do not fear this man in his whitie-tighties, he is here to be your friend. Anyone seeing him and sending us a picture will be richly rewarded!

Race of the Century!

What a race it was! The 2nd Annual Glen City .500 Lawn Mower race surpassed all the pre-race hype, even if mother nature tried to dampen the enthusiasm. A field of 11 determined and courageous drivers filled the field for the thrilling .500 mile race, including the race's first female driver. Fans began crowding the infield and 4th turn wall early in the afternoon in anticipation of the big event. Teams tested the track, adjusted their mowers, and secured last minute sponsorship as the race approached. A light rain blanketed the track, creating a slick surface for the drivers.


The race started promptly at 3PM to the thunderous roar of 11 super-charged lawn-mowing racing machines. The pace-cart led the field around turn 4 and into the front straight-away, pulling off as the field jumped to a quick start. The crowd was standing as the field flew down the long stretch and into turn one. Drivers were bumping and jockeying for position down the short shoot into turn 2. On the back stretch, a couple of drivers began to separate from the field, leaving the rest of the pack in their dust and grass clippings. As they rounded turn 4 toward the finish line, Brian "Mad Dog" Caudell, Richard "The King" Lee, and Mike "The Mayor" Lindsey kicked it into high gear. Mayor Mike had a little extra though, pulling away in the last 100 yards to capture his second title in as many years.

The victory celebration was subdued this year with no queen or milk to coronate the victor. Spectators overheard Lindsey say that he would pay taxes on all his winnings however and that Helio better keep an eye out for him.

All in all it was a great day for a race and a great post race reception was held. With barbecue pulled pork sandwiches and a smorgasbord of great side dishes, everyone was a winner at the second annual Glen City .500.

Note: Due to the increasing popularity of the race, tickets for next year's event will go on-sale starting at the Glen City Annual 4th of July Parade and Picnic, which, coincidentally, is held around the 4th of July. Hope to see you there!

Reminder: April Showers Bring May Races

And the Glen is no exception. The Second Annual Glen City 0.500 Mile Lawn Mower Race is coming up the weekend of Memorial Day. The race will be held on either Saturday or Monday of Memorial weekend. Keep checking for a flyer in your mailbox with details. This year the race will be held first, followed by a pitch-in picnic to celebrate the winner. Ladies are welcome to race too (is there a Danica Patrick in Glen City?). GPS systems will be provided if necessary. Get those mowers ready!

Meet the Romano's!

From the office of the Mayor : I would like to introduce some new people to the neighborhood - the Romano’s ; Anthony, Laura, and their two children, Nicholas and Alexandra. The Romano's moved in about two weeks ago, so if you get a chance while your walking, go meet them. They are ready to get involved in our activities.
